Raupo Bay Retreat is open for you to come and experience this secluded paradise. Situated between Okains Bay and Little Akaloa facing sunny north on the Banks Pennisular, the retreat has access to 2 private bays, revered in the area for its nice waves enjoyed by the more intrepid surfers.Gompa alter

Make use of the elaborate Gompa (meditation hall) that is home to many Tibetan statues, tankas (traditional paintings), and all interesting items for performing initiations and rituals. A private room, kitchen and bathroom is available. Any information, teachings and guidance on practice is available from the resident practitioners on request.

The main house on the retreat being one of the first colonial homesteads in the area dating from the 1880s holds much character. One can absorb themselves in the deeply profound books in the small library which contains the wealth of knowledge and experience of the precious teachings. Relax at the end of the day in the therapeutic  ozone spa under the night stars while listening to the gentle wash of the ocean waves. The retreat is run according to sustainable living principals, we build and live from recycled materials, eat healthy whole foods and grow some organic produce.

Only $15 per night to stay in the gompa. Make use of the kitchen and self cater.

FREE ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD for those keen to put in half a days work on the house and land. Help includes, gardening, landscaping, restoration, renovation, cooking and cleaning.

Take the road to Akaroa from Christchurch, have a pit stop at Little River, there is a great kiwiana art gallery and cafe there. Carry on up the top of the hill, but don’t go down to Akaroa!! Go along the road the winds along the top of hill and turn down to the left to Little Akaloa. Go down the rollercoaster road, turning right towards Chorlton (on the way to Okains Bay) when you hit Little Akaloa bay. Carry on for 10 mins untill you get to chorlton, don’t miss it, only a few houses there! You will see two large letterboxes on the right and McHales Road is on the left. Go down the gravel road, through a farm gate (don’t forget to close behind you), you will Raupo Bay retreat at the end of the road through a wooden gate.

There is no mobile reception there.
